BUTTERFLIES DOWN TO SEVENTH

The Butterflies dropped from second place to seventh losing 1-0 to Yodlington albeit having played one less game than most, but their latest loss came against a side who are looking strong this season and hoping to gain promotion.

Gorchester had an early opportunity to score when Nigel Fond broke clear of the Yodlington defence but unfortunately tripped up just as he struck the ball, sending it high over the bar. Gary Tubson was unlucky with a couple of close chances but Yodlington responded with a stinging effort by Buckino Yakabino that Dan Wadebridge dealt with at the third time of asking. Yodlington's Mark Ferry (great nephew of Bryan!) also fired just wide.

With the game finely in the balance, Yodlington were awarded a penalty after 36 minutes for a clumsy challenge by Steve Shennett, but Alex Weller's crisply hit spot kick was brilliantly pushed away by Wadebridge's left forearm and the sides duly went in on deserved level terms.

What turned out to be the winning goal came ten minutes into the second half as Yodlington exerted pressure in Gorchester's crowded goalmouth. Joel Hunt, who along with the equally diminutive Jodie Greenwood bossed the centre of midfield, hit goalwards from the edge of the box, and the defensive block saw the ball rear up towards Yakabino, whose header looped over keeper Wadebridge, who tripped at the last minute - not unlike Fond's trip in the first half. It was Yakabino's ninth of the season to date, and whilst it is unlikely to feature in any Goal of the Season nominations, it certainly proved vital as Yodlington held on for their first ‘clean sheet’ of the season!

Gorchester threw everything at Yodlington in the final stages with Tubson and Fond having two great chances to draw level, but it was not to be, and as lady 'bad' luck would have it, Nigel Fond tripped up again in the 88th minute, just as he was about to shoot, and sent the ball spinning towards the corner flag.
