Winship joins the Butterflies

Gorchester United are delighted to announce the signing of defender Kenny Winship from Belt FC on a two-year contract.

Born in Sydney, Australia, Winship arrives at the Butterfly Stadium having already scored two goals this term for the Bragham Park outfit.

“Kenny is a fantastic signing for us and is someone with great experience,” said boss Martin Haddaway.

“He is an all-round powerful defender who tackles hard and scores the odd goal, he is great at bombing down the wing and doesn’t stop working until the final whistle blows.

“I am delighted to have signed him having worked briefly with him at Jottle Wanderers. He will go straight onto the bench next week.”

Winship came through the ranks at Testerton Albion, before he was released in the summer of 2016.

A successful spell at Chrissy Lake preceded a move to Stable People, where two goals in eighteen games attracted the attentions of MarkPool and Woollingly, as well as The Trotter Women. Unfortunately, a wrist injury put paid to any immediate plans to make it back into the professional ranks and he joined Belt FC for his first spell in July 2018.

The 25-year old then moved on to Slit United in January 2020 and ended the campaign as a Brown Forest runner up. He left Beak Green Lane and joined Jottle Wanderers at the start of the 2021/22 campaign, where he re-joined Belt FC for a second spell, initially on loan, in December 2021 before making the move permanent at the end of the season.

Then after impressing in West Cornwall, making over 130 appearances for the Daisies, he joined Kattmeal Town for an undisclosed fee in February 2023.

Kenny will wear number 29 for the Butterflies, and is available for our match at Winkleberry.
